I absolutely LOVE summer! I am THAT person that you always see sporting bare legs slightly too early, and I will be caught out without a jacket, and/or umbrella countless times – I’ll never learn. I always have such faith in the British summer, as soon as we hit May I expect big things. I want to be able wear sandals every day, with brightly coloured toes, I want to breeze around in shirt dresses for work with instantly tanned legs, and wear just a hint of tinted moisturiser and a bright lip on skin that will somehow become beautifully sunkissed overnight.

But as we know it more often than not lets us down and we end up digging the chunky knit out and miserably putting the converse back on at least a couple of times.

BUT, if you’re lucky enough, with the summer months usually comes a summer holiday! YES! Guaranteed sun for at least a week (or if not, the wrath of a woman deprived of her rightful sun allowance for the year)

This means one thing, which products to cram into a bag small enough to allow you to take that fifth pair of shoes, but big enough to ensure beauty, radiance and effortlessness! Easy….

1. Hair

One hour in the sun and you’d think I’d been stranded in the sahara for a week. Dry does not even come close! As much as I’d love to be one of those girls on the beach with bouncy sunkissed waves, I am always far from it. Tied up in a top knot with a headscarf and conditioning treatment on is my only chance of having manageble locks at night. My saviours are…

–  Aussie Miracle Moist shampoo and conditioner and the 3 Minute Miracle. Cheap and cheerful, hydrating to the max and not too rich to use everyday on holiday. Oh and they smell delicious!

– Kerastase Elixir Ultime Oil – an absolute lifesaver. Use pre shampoo, post shampoo, morning and evening or whenever the urge strikes.

2. Skin

Along with miniatures of my usual routine, I always make sure I have a face oil packed. My oily skin instantly gets dehydrated in the sun, and using an oil is a great way to pack moisture into the skin without overloading it with a heavy cream, especially when you are reapplying sun protection frequently. My favourite is Clarins Blue Orchid balancing oil.

I like to take a mask with me too, usually a deep cleansing one to clear the pores of any build up. I love Origins Clear Improvement which the clever people at origins have launched in handy travel sized pods- perfect for holidays!

I also cant be without Elisabeth Arden 8 hour cream for lips, sunburn, heat rash – anything basically!

3. Make-up

I’m all for minimal holiday make-up. There’s nothing better than a five minute summer bronze look that will make the most of your holiday glow and make sure you hit the happy hour strawberry daiquiris on time. My top products are – Bobbi Brown shimmer brick in beige, for eyes and cheeks this instantly creates that just off the beach look, add a pop of the creamy matte lipstick in Jenna and you are good to go!

I’ve just come back from a gloriously sunny break in Cyprus and I chose OPI next stop bikini zone for my nails, which I loved. Not my usual bright coral, but a gorgeous shimmery lilac, that looked great against a tan. My Aztec print bikini was from Accesorize, and my sunglasses were a steal from Dorothy Perkins.

Happy holidays everyone!
